Food Battle X

Smosh’s Food Battle is an annual series about the argument between Ian and Anthony on what food would prevail in a deathmatch. The Pink Frosted Sprinkled Donut is a recurring character and a fan favorite that Anthony championed.

To celebrate the 10th annual Food Battle installment, I took a fresh approach to the beloved Food Battle logo and overall graphics package. I wanted to create something more epic and over the top. The result was a logo and title animation to fit the occasion while taking a nod at the previous logo.

Food Battle: The Game

Food Battle: The Game is an Indiegogo funded game based on the Food Battle series that was released in 2014. The mobile game is a 3D single-player action adventure game that was developed after raising over $250,000 in crowdfunding.

When I designed the 2014 Food Battle logo, it was important to integrate the iconic Pink Frosted Donut into the branding. Knowing that the Donut was a recurring character and fan favorite, I decided to feature it front and center as the O’s along with jelly “blood” splatter.

Process

Like all projects, after receiving a brief, I start with populating a mood board for myself and the client to establish a common understanding and visual vocabulary. Sketches and comps are presented to the client a number of times during the feedback loop before approving a final direction.
